There are no more than 200 birds in captivity and probably fewer than 100 of these are pure-bred. The last sighting of this dove in its natural habitat was in 1972. It was endemic to Socorro Island off the west coast of Mexico. The Socorro dove ( Zenaida graysoni) is extinct in the wild.
They are looked after by the European Endangered Species Programme (EEP) In the wild Please note most of them are currently off show as part of the breeding programme, however there is one currently on show in Brilliant Birds.
